Consider setting up a private channel for just your team or department, where you can share updates exclusively with your team members, exchange ideas, or even send funny GIFs and emojis without spamming the rest of your organisation.Īnd just like that, you're now a Slack veteran on making channels private. Use case: Private Slack channels are best suited for a closed audience, a space where you can share confidential information with select team members. Only those added to a private channel (by an existing member) can view any messages or files in that chat. Private Slack channels are ideal for a smaller audience, meaning that you won't distract wider teams and departments with messages that aren't necessarily relevant to them. Use case: Public Slack channels are a great way to promote transparency and inclusivity in your organisation. Members of a public Slack channel can search for any messages or files that have been posted. Everyone in a public Slack channel will have access to the same shared information. Public channels-can be viewed by all members of your workspace (excluding guests), and anyone is free to join.Let's look at the difference between the two and example use cases for each: Looks like this is a UI bug, but directly typing in the Slack channel name can be used as a workaround.There are two different types of channels in Slack-public and private. Note: By default, members can create channels and Multi. Choose a channel type (public or private), then click Create. Give the channel a name, then click Next. If youre on Enterprise Grid, select a workspace from the dropdown menu. I confirmed that the correct private Slack channel is indeed connected and is working. Follow the steps below to create a new channel. While I could not see any channel names populating, something was working behind the scenes, because I was able to move forward with the Zap. Once I realized that the UI was broken, I tried typing the channel name directly into the dropdown field while the incorrect custom section was revealed. I think the options I’m seeing are ones that belong to the next step, which is Message Text. It seems that clicking the Custom heading causes the wrong section to appear in the UI. I recreated the Zap from scratch and got the same behavior. When I clicked Custom, the screen showed options to add Zendesk fields (Zendesk is the trigger app), which makes no sense in the context of a Slack channel selector. No matter what I did, I could not get private Slack channels to populate in the dropdown menu. I experienced the same problem, and it seems like it might be a UI bug. I wanted to follow up on this old post, which is now locked. If you’ve gone through these steps and are still having trouble, please get in touch with the Support Team using the Get Help form as they’ll be able to take a look at your Zap with you to get to the bottom of things. Once you add the text of your message, you’ll be able to finish setting up the step. If you have permission, you can choose if people Can post & invite or Can only post to the channel youre inviting them to. ![]() Review the message and select Got It to confirm. Select From another company, then click Next. Then paste the ID into the Channel field - make sure that it’s in the Channel field (as shown below) and not in the search box, as that wont work. Enter the email address or name for anyone you’d like to invite to the channel, then click Add. In the Create Message action, click on the channel field and select Custom. That will open a window with the channel details and the channel ID is at the very bottom of that window:Ĭopy the channel ID and open the Zap editor. To find the channel ID, right click the name of the channel in Slack and select View channel details. If that doesn’t work, or you have lots of channels and don’t want to click the Load more button over and over again (understandably!) you can use the Channel ID as a custom value. This is because the dropdown can only load a certain number of channels at any one time. Here are a couple of tips if you’re running into this issue….Īs other members have mentioned, you can keep clicking Load more on the Channel dropdown to load more channels. ![]()
